Working with Visual Display Units & Display Screen Equipment for Assessors/Users


The aim of this course is to give candidates a sound understanding of the relevant pieces of legislation appertaining to Display Screen Equipment (DSE) Visual Display Units (VDU) an understanding of the term ergonomics and DSE/VDU assessment process.

Knowledge of the environment is which the VDU/DSE equipment is situated is advisable.

The course is of one-day duration.

Optimum Number:
The optimum number of delegates on the course will be ten.

Training Aids:
Use will be made of lecture notes, visual presentations, video, practical exercise.

The assessment will be by a practical workstation assessment plus written questionnaire.



At the conclusion of the course, delegates will have a good understanding of all relevant legislation:

  • The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • The Management Health & Safety at Work Regulations.
  • The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1988.
  • The Workplace Health, Safety & Welfare Regulations 1992.
  • The Display Screen Equipment Regulations 1992.

The skills to carry out a thorough VDU / DES risk assessment:

  • Workstation layout.
  • Seating.
  • Lighting.
  • Design.
  • Environment.
