CompEx Dust Ex05 to Ex06


Course Aim

To deliver competence based training and assessment in the selection, use, maintenance and inspection of I.S. and non-I.S. electrical apparatus in areas of combustible dusts in accordance with the requirements of IEC 60079-0, IEC 60079-10-2, IEC 60079-14 and IEC 60079-17 relevant standards.

On completion of the assessments they are sent to the Awarding Body JTL for marking, and if successful the candidates shall be issued with a certificate of core competence by JTL.

  • Area Classification, Zones 20, 21 and 22.
  • Concept of Dust Ignition Protection.
  • Legislation.
  • Directives and Standards.
  • Protection Concepts for use in Combustible Dust Atmospheres.
  • Wiring Systems and Glanding.
  • Installation, Inspection, Maintenance and Testing of Non-I.S. and I.S. Electrical Equipment.
  • Feedback and Review.



CompEx is the national training and assessment scheme for electro technical crafts personnel who work in potentially explosive atmospheres, such as on-and off-shore Oil & Gas Pharmaceuticals, Energy, Chemical industries etc.

CompEx is a national joint training initiative developed and implemented by the Engineering Equipment and Material Users Association (EEMUA) and JTL and is supported by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

JTL who is the National training agent for the Electrical contracting industry has been appointed to develop, operate and manage the training provision across the UK and has licensed and accredited a number of centres to deliver the training and assessment.



Delegates for the course should be competent electrical and/or instrument craft personnel.  Additionally having completed CompEx Ex01-Ex04 would be advantageous.  You are required to bring with you Photo Identification and suitable evidence that you are fully qualified in electrical or instruments or both.  This could be a letter from your employer or ideally a JIB card or certificate of your qualification.


Course Duration

The course is 3 days in duration.


Course Update

Please note that this course has recently changed and now includes the installation and inspection of intrinsically safe (I.S.) equipment.

The maximum number of candidates is 4.


Course Language

The course is delivered in English.  Therefore candidates must have good standards of both written and verbal English.  Courses can be delivered in other languages, however this would need to be discussed prior to acceptance on the course.  It is the responsibility of the person making the booking to make Roxby Training Solutions aware of any such requirement.


Training Support

A Roxby Training Solutions PowerPoint presentation will be delivered supported by hand-outs.  This is followed with practical training and assessment.
